Rivelin and Loxley River Wardens

Donation protected
The river Don and the rivers and streams that feed her are under threat and need to be looked after. Please help us to maintain these rivers, so future generations of fish, animals and humans can benefit from clear, non-polluted rivers. Your response has been great, but still need a few quid to pay for the monitoring gear. We are not a club so cannot get grants or any kit from the A.T even though some of us are members, not a complaint just the way the system works. Maybe a club or a riparian owner may be willing or even a water company? Even antique fishing gear could be auctioned. Feel free.

Below is a picture of an overflow on the river Rivelin, the headline picture is of a settling tank with water on its way to the Rivelin.

Rivers and lakes can only take a certain amount of pollution being pumped and discharged into them; they are dying. In my lifetime, I have seen the rivers recover from heavy industry pollution to become a haven for wildlife and people, but that trend is reversing and the rivers are in a shape decline. Some may say the bell has already tolled for them, but I and others don't believe that. We can with your help too stem the rot on the Loxley and Rivelin. Others are doing it on the Sheaf, the Porter, the Don, The Aire, and the Wye, these are just a few of the areas where groups of citizens, anglers, wild swimmers and others have got together to check, register, inform and if necessary, prosecute the polluters. To do all this we need money to purchase equipment in the form of water-quality equipment, to purchase equipment for the river monitoring initiative equipment and to be trained in the use of it and how to recognize river invertebrates. A typical course for 12 people costs about £2,000, so it's not cheap, but the rangers must do it. If you think that pollution is acceptable, don't bother to donate, if you think it's unacceptable, please donate what you can. Every little bit helps. We and the wildlife of the rivers and lakes thank you. All monies will go to the Rivelin and Loxley valley groups of the river Rangers.
