River FM Transmitter and Antenna Installation
Donation protected
On the night of the Feb 2022 floods in the NSW Northern Rivers River FM continued to broadcast throughout the night, regardless of the building being surrounded by rising floodwaters.
By keeping the community updated with the latest information countless people were able to make critical relocation decisions, initiate contact with those who may have otherwise been isolated and triggered many others to mobilise their support and rescue efforts.
Sadly the stations capacity was not running at full broadcast level on the night as our main transmitter was undergoing much needed maintenance work. As that transmitter had been taken to the designated technicians place of work it was, unfortunately, caught in the rapidly rising flood and destroyed.
Thanks to government funding, resulting from grant applications made by River FM's general manager a new transmitter and antenna was partially funded, with a grant requirement being that the bridging finance between the grant and the full cost being raised by the station.
Thanks to a recent benefit concert approximately half of that amount was raised.
This GoFundMe campaign's goal is to raise the balance of the funds and to fund required ancillary equipment to ensure that the new equipment is installed in a fashion that will ensure it operates at full capacity (this includes necessary site air-conditioning that will avoid over-heating, etc).
The new transmitter and antenna will allow River FM to increase its broadcast footprint so that it reaches its licenced capacity, ensuring that it will be able to provide service to its traditional Nth Rivers audience.
Please contribute what you can afford to this effort, and, importantly, share this page so that others who would be happy to support the Australia's oldest regional community station also get an opportunity to donate.
