River’s Medical Support for SMA Type 2

Hi,

My name is Melissa from San Antonio, TX and I am fundraising for my grandson, 3 year old, River, and my daughter, Detoria to help with medical expenses. My grandson was diagnosed in December 2021 (just before his 2nd birthday) with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (aka SMA) - Type 2. SMA is a very rare disease that robs a person of physical strength and can take away their ability to walk, swallow and breathe. River’s motor skills started to decline around 9 months old when he stopped hitting milestones. He regularly requires specialist appointments with his neurologists, pulmonologist, GI, orthopedic, physical and occupational therapists while also undergoing several medical treatments. Funds will be distributed directly to my daughter to pay for medical treatment, medical equipment, and other  expenses incurred.
