RiverRidge: The Eric Brazier Memorial Fund Walk

In May of 2021, my dad, Rick, suffered a devastating hemorrhagic stroke. He spent multiple weeks at the Brigham and Women's ICU and inpatient stroke recovery areas before moving to Spaulding Cambridge for over three months. Unfortunately, his stroke had resulted in severe difficulty with speaking, swallowing and an inability to move the right side of his body. He began to plateau in his rehab, thus initiating the next phase of his rehabilitation and our search for a long-term skilled nursing facility. We were extremely fortunate to be accepted by RiverRidge, a facility out of state in Kennebunk, Maine, 30 minutes from my home, that specializes explicitly in patients like my dad with a traumatic brain injury. At RiverRidge, dad has continued to improve, receiving specialized speech, Physical and occupational therapy services. While he still has a ways to go, he has found a home and community that is helping to improve his quality of life. He can now speak a handful of words and is working on getting better at transfers.

The Eric Brazier Memorial Fund was established in memory of Eric Brazier, a resident of RiverRidge who passed in June of 2007. This fund continues to meet the needs of RiverRidge residents with limited resources and to provide a better quality of life for all residents. Since its inception, this fund has provided over $50,000 to enrich the lives of residents in need, including my father, for things such as personal needs, group activities, special equipment, outings, and countless other ways for making the lives of RiverRidge residents and their families more fulfilling and easing burdens in times of difficulty. This year, they are holding their 15th Annual Memorial walk in Eric's honor to continue raising money for this great fund. We will be in attendance and are hoping to raise money for this excellent facility and cause.
