Hello beautiful people - we're adopting!
Many of you already know this, but Jeremiah and I have been on a journey towards adoption since we've met. We're excited to provide a home for a child and begin our family through infant domestic adoption.
Right now we've completed the home study process through Bethany.
We've completed hours of paperwork, homework, interviews and medical exams, and our next step is to show our profile to Expectant Families. This is the "active" phase, where we might be selected by an Expectant Family or Mom to care for her child. Our aim is to active by March and we could be in this phase anywhere from 2 weeks-2 years before we're chosen. There's no knowing when we'll actually be placed, so there's still a long road to go.
Well, this is a GoFundMe, so without further ado...
The average cost of an infant adoption is $40k.
We are expecting our costs to come in below that (hopefully $33k). This high cost is for many reasons including agency expenses, legal fees, counseling and care for the Expectant Mothers, inter-state fees and more. Some of this we have already paid, but we're hoping to raise as much as we can to cover the full expense.
Though this is an obvious request for money, we have a few things to say about that.
Jer and I have a hard time with obligatory giving. We take Corinthians seriously when it says to not give "reluctantly or under compulsion" so if this is you, we urge you to be free of obligation - don't give! God will provide for us and this child regardless of your contribution. The world is full of needs, fundraisers and good causes so if you need to, be free of this one.
If you want to give, then please, do!
Literally, any amount will be deeply appreciated. This is a beautiful and awesome venture and we are well aware that raising children is a community-wide effort. For us, this begins now. We know that it is in the hearts of many of you to join with us financially and we would be grateful to receive your gift. We're pumped and soberly moving forward, expecting to see God provide for his unborn children even as he provides for you and me.
