Lupita’s Surgery for her left and right hip

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Nicole and we adopted Lupita in January 2021. Lupita is a two year old border collie/ cattle dog and we live in Bemidji, MN with my boyfriend and her fur sibling Jovie. She was saved from a shelter in Texas and transported up to Minnesota where we adopted her. She had a rough start in life being in an overcrowded Texas Shelter. Her life before she found her way to the shelter was full of abuse. When we adopted her it took months before she felt fully comfortable and not so shut down. She has had a history of undiagnosed lameness and has been on vetprofen over the past year and it didn’t seem to bother her until a few months ago. I brought her in and she had blood drawn where it all came back normal. We put her on a bed rest for a few weeks and it wasn’t improving. She was just in on November 9th for X-rays where we got her official diagnosis. She has severe hip dysplasia in both hips and the left side is so bad that it is just hanging. I have an estimate from the vet for roughly $3000 that would help fix the left side since her left hip is just hanging.  Her right hip will also be around $3,000. A femoral head ostectomy (FHO) will be needed on both hips.

Update on 12/11/2022: We will also have to have surgery done on her right hip as well in about 6 months. Her left hip will be a 2-3 month recovery alone and then possibly 3-4 months after that will be her right hip. She didn’t go through all the struggles in life before us adopting her on January 24th, 2021 with the history of abuse, and almost being at risk of being euthanized in Texas with her sister before being saved by Northern Lakes Rescue  in Pequot Lakes, MN to have to suffer. We will do everything we can to help her and to have her continue living her best life with us. We love her so much and want nothing but the best.

Update: 12/13/3022: Lupita has surgery today on her left hip. I was able to pick her up the next day! She is doing amazing and already walking on her back left by doing a head ostectomy (FHO). We will keep you all updated!

Truly, this was not the outcome that we were hoping for as she is only two and a half. She is living her best life with us now and this surgery is important to help her keep living her best life. Thank you all so much for sharing her story! Every share helps! We just want to help her feel better again and I appreciate you for reading her story. Please reach out with questions.

Any funds left over will be donated to save Rescue Dogs from death row!
