House fire recovery & starting over fund
Donation protected
Hey everyone! My name is Amber. We recently lost our home to a house fire. A branch fell from a huge tree in the front yard and ripped the meter off the side of the the duplex, starting a fire in the attic that quickly spread across into our connecting neighbors attic as well. We are all now in a hotel after receiving assistance from Red Cross, but the assistance only covered a week for each household. We’ve all lost pretty much all of our belongings. We desperately need help to cover replacing clothing, necessities, furniture, and a deposit on a new place to live. We unfortunately did not have renters insurance (lesson learned) so this has put a huge strain on all of us. Please donate if you’re able to, otherwise do me a favor and share this so I can share this for a wider outreach. Thank you.
UPDATE: I was able to obtain a fire report from 2019 at the same home. In this report, it states that the owner was informed that the old wiring in the home would need replaced.
The previous tenant said when she lived in the home, utilizing too many appliances at once would flip the breaker (happened to us during our time there as well, nothing was fixed)
He even came into our home one day a couple years ago because the attached neighbors at the time said they smelled burning plastic. It ended up being an outlet on that side.
If he was informed these issues needed fixed, then why was there still old, unprotected wiring?
I genuinely feel if the wiring had been updated and had proper protection, the attic would not have caught on fire the way it did.
It took the fire department longer to find the fire and put it out because of the old style insulation in the attic.
The day after the fire, he immediately started asking us to get everything out of the house. We had nowhere to go other than the hotel Red Cross helped put us in and had NO time to make necessary arrangements.
He took it upon himself to go into both units (ours and my neighbors) to determine what was salvagable or not, leading to many sentimental items being thrown out, collectibles that had been left out to dry by one of my neighbors (had already been decided it could be saved, he didn’t ask), along with plenty of other things.
Not even a week after the fire and the homes are completely emptied out, and he’s put primer over the burnt areas to paint over to get ready for the next tenant.
Planning to take legal action ASAP.
