ROA GIRLS DIVE! Scuba Certification Donation

Donation protected
Connecting with the ocean through scuba diving has the power to change lives. Being in the water makes you happier. It makes you healthier. And it inspires you to protect our most precious marine ecosystems.

No one is more deserving of this connection than Roatan’s girls. With the coral reef literally in their backyard, many grow up never making it past the sand to see the underwater paradise of their island home. ROA GIRLS DIVE is changing that – and you can help!

A partnership between SUN DIVERS, ROATAN PEER HEALTH EXCHANGE and PADI, this grassroots scholarship program provides PADI Scuba Diving certifications to local girls and women in Roatan ranging from Open Water Diver all the way to Rescue Diver.

SPONSOR A ROA GIRL!
With your generous support, we can reach our 2023 goal of certifying 12 Roatan girls as new Open Water Divers and Advanced Open Water divers. Certification instruction and dives are provided at a discount rate by Sun Divers, and eLearning registrations have been donated by PADI. $200 sponsors an Open Water certification and $255 sponsors an Advanced Open Water – but every little bit helps!

WHY MORE ROA GIRLS SHOULD DIVE?

ENRICHED LIVES - The mental, physical, and emotional benefits of diving are many - and who better to reap those benefits than teenage girls dealing with the complexity that comes with growing up? Especially girls who have spent their whole lives with the reef in their backyard but have yet to experience its beauty and power. This scholarship program enriches the lives of young girls by providing them with a positive, healthy activity and outlet.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS - The girls that participate in the Roatan Peer Health Exchange program are poised to be our future leaders. Leaders who should be empowered to protect our fragile marine ecosystem through their actions and decision-making - as well as those that they influence. We want to give Roatan's girls the education they need to be good environmental stewards of the natural resources that support livelihoods in their coastal community.

PROFESSIONAL PATHWAYS - Roatan women are significantly underrepresented in the local dive industry. We'd like to educate Roatan's girls on the professional paths that they should consider for their future, as well as provide them with the necessary certifications needed to participate in local dive professional development programs, such as the Roatan Marine Park's Protect our Pride Program.
