Roach’s Medical Bills
Donation protected
Hey everyone!
We don’t want anyone to feel any obligation to help us but Roach’s medical bills are piling up fast and we just spent our life savings on a house last month. Any help is greatly appreciated but good thoughts and prayers are just as welcome. He has changed our lives and every life he has touched in the short amount of time we’ve been with him. We will do anything to bring him home. If you can help out in any way, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
About 2 weeks ago Roach woke us up in the middle of the night vomiting. We thought it was just a tummy ache but took him to the vet when it didn’t get better after a couple days. The vet didn’t seem concerned, gave him some meds and we went on our way.
Roach didn’t seem to get back to himself. We weren’t getting butt wiggles or the same amount of sass we were used to. We assumed he was just feeling sick but he was on the mend. He was enjoying his chicken and rice diet but then started getting picky. With how stubborn he is we thought he was just being picky because he would still take treats. Friday morning Tim couldn’t get him to get out of bed and he wouldn’t take treats or anything. We rushed him to Urgent Care.
He was at urgent care all day, they found a TON of fluid on his belly. They also had a hard time visualizing his heart on chest x-ray. They were concerned he was septic or in heart failure but the doctors couldn’t agree on a diagnosis. Meanwhile he began to decline more and more. We were referred to Kansas State Veterinary Hospital Friday night and we rushed him 3 hours away at 8PM Friday.
I was able to love on him for 3 hours but his breathing was getting worse during the drive. As soon as we got to K State he got admitted to the ICU. He’s being seen by cardiology now and it looks like he has something called Subaortic Stenosis, has an enlarged left heart and is in atrial flutter. They believe the fluid in his belly was likely just backup from his heart not functioning properly. He also has fluid in his lungs compromising his breathing. He has a guarded prognosis right now but as of Sunday night they have increased his diuretic and started heart medications and he seems to be breathing a little easier but has a long road ahead. We got to see him Sunday before we came back to Omaha and he still had a little pep and a tail wag in him. We got to pet him and hold him. As soon as we were done he hopped right back into his oxygen cage. It’s like he knows he has to heal up to get back home.
We can’t wait to bring him home. He has so much more love to give. He’s so young and the doctor seems hopefully he can live with his heart issues if treated properly.
We won’t have him home for his birthday but we have all the hope he will be home for the holidays.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.
