I am so excited and honored to represent the great state of Utah at the national Mrs. United States pageant in Orlando, Florida this July!
This campaign is to assist me with national fees and competition expenses associated with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
My platform is Read, Lead, Succeed. As Mrs. Utah , I share my passion for literacy and education. Childhood literacy is the key to success in school. I believe in educating parents and caregivers about the importance of childhood literacy. Beginning as young as birth, reading aloud to children stimulates language and cognitive skills. These early literacy experiences help children become better readers, read on grade level and succeed in the classroom. Almost 30% of Utah's third grade students read below grade level. Students who do not read on grade level by the end of third grade statistically have a harder time catching up making it difficult to succeed in their academic career. As a licensed educator, I have seen firsthand the difference reading makes in a child's life and their academic career.
I've spent time as a reading volunteer with Read Out and Read and published my first children's book with the goal of encouraging childhood literacy because a reader today, creates a leader tomorrow.
I recently launched Read Your Heart Out, an online children's literacy program to help develop early reading skills.
Another organization I am privileged
to work with is My Story Matters! It is rewarding to listen and record the stories of so many wonderful children in our community. There is power in owning your story and sharing it with others.
