The Road to Recovery: Getting a Car back

Donation protected
I reluctantly started this GFM campaign a month ago, in hopes of saving our only vehicle, which had been repossessed due to multiple hospitalizations I had to have to eventually save my life.

My mental health had gotten so bad over the course of a few years, due to the loss of a child and a series of events that led to my family having to live out of a motel for 14 months, something that once we got out of, still weighed so very heavily on my soul, the PTSD hit me in full force. My wife spent so much time, bless her heart, trying to get me to get help and when I finally did, it led to a life changing visit to a mental health facility, something that I wouldn't be here today, had I not done. It saved me and I am so glad I am now on the road to recovery, going to therapy, on wonderful medication that helps my lifelong ideation/depression and woke me up to what I had allowed to infiltrate my head, leading me to confront my depression and turn my mental health around.

We had to raise $5,000 to save our car and unfortunately, did not raise that amount, our car was lost for good.

We have spent the past month walking 6 miles a day, with no vehicle. Our kids go to four different schools. we both have jobs we have to go to and day to day activities such as getting groceries have been so very difficult. Our kids' school attendance has suffered. We have had to take sick days from our jobs, due to some days, just not having a way to get to work. Having a large family like ours, a car is not only helpful, but crucial. It has been so damn hard. Yet, we endure, we fight to get ahead and we do not take the loss lightly. We are doing what we can.

After an entire month of trying to get loans, consigners and what have you, we finally found a dealership that will work with us. A vehicle that will be big enough for our family, yet is affordable and reliable. It's like a blessing and a miracle popped up, just as our hope was seemingly dwindling. But like most things, there comes a catch.

Even with our co-signer, the dealership is insisting that we put down a deposit on the car, to the tune of $4,000. Thankfully, we have saved and raised as much as possible ourselves, doing every side gig possible, working working working. And we have raised most of the down payment for the car. We are now only $1,500 shy of what we need, the additional $2,500 we already have.

I believe in hope, in kindness and good will. I believe in paying your blessings forward and I have done so much to try to do just that. People have helped our family in the past and good lord are we so grateful. We are in desperate need of this vehicle. Desperate need. We are doing all we can.

If we can raise the final $1,500, our family's lives will change. The last remnants of what my then-declining mental health would take away, would be put to rest, and we could give our kids rides to school without having to walk MILES with them each morning. We would be able to make it to work every day and we would be one step closer to moving on from an existence that killed us for so long.

We do not expect the help, but we certainly do appreciate it. Thank you.
