Rob and Wanda Benson Memorial and Family Fund

Greetings, I'm seeking your loving support on behalf of a very special and tight knit family suddenly riddled by major heart ache and long term life challenges. Three delightful young adult daughters recently and unexpectedly lost both of their loving and doting parents. Their father and my important lifelong friend and musician, Rob Benson of Rocky Mount NC was hospitalized in January and diagnosed with advanced metastasized pancreatic cancer. Rob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, talented guitar and dobro player, professional paint contractor, and fun-loving and thoughtful friend to all. Their mom and Rob's very cherished wife, Wanda Daniels Benson had already faced her own life challenges with chronic rheumatoid arthritis for years. Unable to look after each other when Rob was discharged from the hospital, Wanda lived with and was taken care of by her daughters and Rob moved in with his mother and sister. A week or so later, Wanda died unexpectedly in her sleep on Jan 28. In spite of Rob's untold grief and rapidly declining condition, he maintained his predictably positive outlook and strong encouragement to his daughters and everyone around him. Rob died 6 days after his wife on Feb 3, 2023. Their daughters are convinced that Wanda was determined to be there to welcome her Rob in her loving arms, and Rob was comforted knowing they would soon be reunited. As far back as I can recall, "Big Rob" was a bright beacon of good will, full of encouragement to others, and always looking for the good in everything. Wanda was his bookend. They adored looking after each other, their daughters, friends, garden and critters. They instilled their kind and loving nature in their surviving daughters, Caroline Brooks Benson of Wilmington, Rachel Benson Whaley of Greenville and Rebecca Benson of Rocky Mount. These sisters remain steadfast in their determination to look after each other, press on and find the good in things in spite of the tragic and premature passing of their dear parents. Although these sisters did not seek it, I know they need our help with their parents' cremation, funeral home and related expenses. In addition, the youngest, Rebecca, has another year of study remaining to complete her sonography certification at Pitt Tech. Rob and Wanda had been helping Rebecca with those expenses.
