James DiFrank’s Education Fund

Once upon a time in Charlotte, NC on a cold winter night at a fundraiser at The Double Door Inn, a boy met a girl. Not just any boy - nor any girl - Rob and Lauren had more in common than most. Both Rob and Lauren were cancer survivors who had attended different cancer wellness retreats one year earlier. Also, before they even met, Lauren and Rob both received treatment at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte. It’s almost an epic romantic movie script waiting to happen; so many “almost” moments.

Well, these two cancer survivors and Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreats alumni found each other (with a little help) and a romance was born. From the very start Rob and Lauren were perfect for one another. Within a few years they married and along came James - the magic spark in both their lives! 

James - who turned four last week -  is obsessed with trucks, cars, games, toys, and all the little boy things. He’s a hugger who loves everyone and who has a whole life of learning and adventure ahead of him. He loved his Dad more than anything and would often walk up to him, give him a big hug and kiss and share his toys with him. James has an enormous heart - which is not surprising given his mom and dad.

The love story of Rob, Lauren and James has inspired us all. Have you ever seen a more beautiful, joyful, loving family? Rob is gone and how better to honor him than to make sure that James has what he needs as he grows up. The funds we raise here will be used to help James get the education, experiences, and opportunities that his dad wanted for him.
