Rob Gorby’s Funeral and Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Far too young, Rob lost his battle with cancer. When his illness forced him to leave his employment he also lost his life insurance. His family is appreciative of those willing to help defray the cost of funeral and medical expenses.

Donations can also be made directly to Mark.

Robert "Rob" W. Gorby, 59, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024 while surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. Rob left a legacy of joy and service to his family, friends and community.
Born on November 19, 1964, in New London, OH. Rob was the youngest child of Mervin Kenneth and Doris Jean (Smyth) Gorby. Rob graduated from New London High School and EHOVE Career Center in 1983.
Rob’s naturally curious nature made him an exceptionally skilled tradesman, earning his associate degree from Terra State Community College, specializing in HVAC. He held various positions within the industry including Energyworks, Thompson Heating & Air, Hohler Furnace & Sheet Metal, and Total Line Refrigeration. He passed his skills to the next generation, teaching his trade to others at Sandusky High School and Vermillion Union Hall.
He truly enjoyed bringing happiness to the lives of those around him. During the summer “Mr. Gorby” frequently gathered with family and friends at cookouts, where he could be found laughing with others, engaged in deep conversations or offering encouragement. Those around him were no match for his legendary pranks and quick wit. He enjoyed spending time on the lake- camping, boating and even racing sailboats.
With a heart for the plight of others, Rob put his concerns into action by serving those in need. He volunteered for a local horse rescue farm, the annual Witches Walk, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, he was a board member for Safe Harbour (domestic violence shelter) and volunteered at Agape. Agape served the needs of those suffering from the effects of HIV in a time when many were too afraid to help. Perhaps his greatest act of kindness was the devotion and care he showed to his mother in her sunset years.
His commitment to others is evident in his extensive group of lifelong friends and the love of his devoted family. He is survived by his spouse and companion of 24 years, Mark E. Weikle of Sandusky; his son, Zachary Ryan (Amanda) Collins of Nova; his two grandchildren, Daniel and Hannah; his brothers and sisters Joyce (Jimmy) Zdanowicz of Garfield Heights, Sue (Monica Mondozzi) Gorby of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Colleen “Kelly” Gorby of St. Augustine, Florida, Shirley “Renee” Pfaff of Mansfield, and Ken (Eva) Gorby of Norwalk; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Rob was preceded in death by his loving parents; and two sisters, Rebecca Jean Gorby (in infancy) and Donna Gorby Deal.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 18th from 4pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19th at 11am at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Reverand Melvin Sayler will officiate. Graveside services will be immediately proceeding at Oakland Cemetery and Memorial in Sandusky Ohio.

Farewell, Dad. Farewell Mr. Gorby. Farewell, Dear Brother. Farewell Uncle Robbie. We once were lost, but now are found. We were blind, but now we see.
