Hi, my name is Beth Walters. Last Monday my healthy, strong, 29 year old son was found laying on the ground in a parking garage in downtown Milwaukee. He was on his way into work and collapsed. Thankfully someone else was walking into work as well and saw him and immediately called 911. He was rushed to St Mary’s hospital, given a chest x-ray and diagnosied with two large pulmonary embolisms. One in each lung. (picture below) He was struggling to breathe and suffered 5 cardiac arrests. The medicine that he was given to break up the clots was not working even though he was given the maximum dose. It was then determined by the doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital that he needed to be airlifted to Froedtert Hospital to be treated by their specialists in the cardiac ICU with an ecmo machine. Without the ecmo machine, his heart would not be able to filter carbon dioxide or oxygenate his blood. He is currently receiving care in the ICU, however has had his breathing tube removed. Yay! So awesome. It could be called a small miracle but for his family, it’s a HUGE miracle. The doctors have run, what seems like, every test known to man to find the cause of such large pulmonary embolisms in such a healthy young man. It turns out he has inherited a gene from his father or myself called Factor V Leiden. The gene causes his blood to clot abnormally and excessively. He will need to be on blood thinners the rest of his life which is where you come in (hopefully❤️) Robbie and his girlfriend have been saving for their wedding and a down payment on a house. Unfortunately all of their savings will now go to medical expenses as well as any other money they are able to set aside. And for such a young couple just starting out in life and planning a future together, the medical expenses will be insurmountable and too big of a hurdle to even fathom. Myself and all of his loved ones would be beyond grateful for any donation you are able to make to help ease the financial crisis they are facing.
We are incredibly grateful for all of the doctors and nurses, at both hospitals that have and are currently caring for him. And of course, immensely grateful for his continued improvement.
Thank you very, very much for your consideration ❤️
