Anyone who has met Robbie knows he is such a sweet baby and an incredibly strong fighter. Robbie was born with multiple congenital heart defects.
Robbie has had 2 open heart surgeries, 3 heart catheterizations, weekly cardiologist appointments and echocardiograms in just his first 6 months. He has been doing well, smiling and making the fiercest eye contact I have ever seen from a baby that age.
However, on Wednesday September 18th Heather rushed Robbie to the Emergency Room due to labored breathing (combined with parent's intuition - they knew something was wrong). Heather ran him into the ER when he was immediately taken to the trauma unit. At that time, he had a fever of 104 and low oxygen levels.
He was placed on a ventilator and after several hours and multiple medications, his oxygen levels went from dropping into the single digits to maintaining in the high 60s. Normal for Robbie is 75-85 (and the rest of us normal is close to 100). An echocardiogram determined the shunt which was pushing blood into his lungs had clotted and closed. In addition, a leak was found that causing unoxygenated blood to bypass his lungs and go directly to the heart.
A heart catheterization was done to fix the leak. Now it's up to Robbie to determine the next steps. He may be able to maintain the current circulation without the shunt or another open heart surgery will be required to replace it. He will remain in the hospital for over 2 weeks (possibly longer).
Heather has had to take unpaid time from work (with much more anticipated) and Matt has been unable to work his second job so that one of them can be there to keep up with Robbie's ever-changing medical condition. While someone is advocating for Robbie at the hospital, someone else is with Andy attempting to make sure his day to day life is as close (as possible) to any other 7 year old, which includes his activities, school functions and birthday parties.
All of this time off work has caused financial stress for them on top of all this emotional stress. It would be nice to help take something off their plate. Anything you can give would be so appreciated and help so much!
This is not for medical bills but helping this family with lost wages and general day to day expenses.
Contact me directly if you would rather donate through PayPal to Matt and Heather.
