Robert and Diane Zunino
Donation protected
Robert and Diana Zunino, a Deaf couple in their seventies, fled their house with only the clothes they were wearing and their wallets. They are long-time Santa Rosa residents and Robert is a graduate of CSD-Berkeley. Luckily, the night of the fire, Robert looked out the window of their house and noticed that their trash cans had tipped over in the 40 mph winds. He went downstairs to set them up right when he noticed smoke and a neighbor ran up to him and pointed at the smoke and gestured emphatically for him and his wife to “Get out now!” Cars were streaming out of the neighborhood. Robert ran back in the house, got Diana and they rushed to their car. As they were driving away, the flames reached their house. Their entire neighborhood is now flattened, a landscape of blackened rubble.
