Robert & Deborah McKenzie Fire Relief
“A tiny spark for a vast conflagration”
Good Morning all, my name is Mr. Robert McKenzie better known to many as “Blacks”.
On the morning of Sunday 21st, February 2021, my Wife, Debbie went to Church whilst I stayed home with the children and to prepare Sunday dinner. My son, Shawn was in his room which was at the front of the house whilst my daughters, Jada & Jasmine were in their room which was
closer to the rear of the house.
Whilst I was in the Kitchen, Shawn came to me asking for a container to fill with water. He then informed me that he heard a spark that created a “small fire”. Shawn left with the water
toward his room. As he got closer he realized that his room was engulfed in flames. Shawn’s loud scream grabbed all of my attention. It was at that moment, I knew something was wrong, I
had to act swiftly. I grabbed the fire extinguisher and proceeded toward his bedroom. I
attempted to extinguish the fire but because of the intensifying flames I was unsuccessful.
After “smelling smoke” Jada stepped out of her room into the hallway to see what was going on.
Jada could only see smoke and flames from her angle. Jada and Jasmine then escaped through
their bedroom window running toward the road. Shawn & I ran through the kitchen door.
It was very windy on that Sunday morning, the winds contributed heavily to the fast spread of
the fire. The only thing we could have done was sit on the sidewalk across the street and watch
the destruction of my Wife’s childhood home.
As humans, quite naturally after experiencing such devastation, the only words used to describe the feeling are shock, anger, depression and hopelessness however we as a family are
reminded in Psalm 91:2 “ I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust”
On behalf of my family, I would like to say “ THANK YOU” for your support be it by prayer or any donation.
We must remember to be our brothers keeper.
