Robert Sauceda’s Medical Fund & Family Support

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Samantha and I’m fundraising for my Dad, Robert Sauceda.

My dad was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver back in 2022 due to alcoholism and around that time, within a 6 month span, my father lost his brother Ramiro Sauceda to cirrhosis and then lost his brother Ramon Jr. to the same thing. After some medical issues and both losses my dad quit his addiction cold turkey. He’s been sober ever since and has has been working very hard to survive for his wife, children and grandchildren - and the one he learned in September was on the way. My Dad has always been a very giving man, always helping everyone he can and always doing more than he ever needs to. He’s an amazing auto body refinisher and was always working on a car whether at home or at work and has always strived for the best for his family.

In November, my dad got very sick and went into sepsis in the ICU with extreme ammonia levels. This hospital visit was severe and he was unable to speak and we thought we were going to loose him. As we took turns being by his side he continued to fight and tell us he was not going anywhere. During this episode we learned his life span, should he recover from sepsis, would be at most 6 months.

Since this episode he never 100% recovered from those high ammonia levels as his mobility became a challenge and he had to undergo physical therapy and with those high levels of ammonia, confusion and delirium has also been a substantial challenge for him. He has also lost a severe amount of weight and has been in the hospital emergency room several times as his health continues to degrade and his mobility decreases.

My mom, Maria Martinez Sauceda, has been very persistent with doctors calling and calling to get him whatever help he can and worked to get as many appointments moved up as possible to get answers. A few weeks ago we were given a referral by a transplant specialist (an appointment that we would still be waiting for, had my mom not been so persistent) who suggested to take him to the ER at the Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital in San Antonio to get him screened for a transplant as soon as possible. My mom, decided we weren’t waiting, she was going to take him immediately and I took my parents up there and they instantly started helping him there. He is officially now on the transplant list and looks forward to his new lease on life.

We are asking for support as what comes next will be challenging. We are already challenged with traveling back and forth and missing work, as my mom is a Teacher full time (who is trying her best to finish out the school year for her students) and my Dad has not been physically capable to work for 7+ months now. San Antonio will be a temporary home for my Dad and my Mom for now. And after the transplant, after a month of recovery in the hospital they will need to stay locally for appointments several times a week. With less revenue coming in, travel and even paying for regular bills has become more difficult. We are needing support for all these changes and financial difficulties that come with the blessing of this transplant.

Thank you so much for reading this and your support is greatly appreciated.
