Roberto Melgar

Back in March of 2022 our dad, Roberto Melgar was diagnosed with AML Leukaemia. It has been a strenuous time for the whole family, but more so for our parents. Dad has had to give up work to focus on his health. So far, he has undergone 4 rounds of chemotherapy, each round experiencing difficulties and challenges, physically and mentally.

During this period, doctors were working on finding dad a donor for a bone morrow transplant and after a few months we received the good news that a successful match had been found...and so the transplant journey began. However, due to unforeseen health complications the transplant was delayed resulting in losing the donor.

From there, the doctors requested that all of dads’ siblings and children be tested in hope of finding the best match for him. Thanks to the grace of God our eldest sibling Walter was the best match and so he commenced the donor medical process immediately.

We were given a rundown of the bone marrow transplant and although the doctors have advised this is his best option, it is still a very risky procedure after being told that there is a 15-20% chance of death in the first three months, 25% chance of the Leukemia returning and a 50% chance of it working.

During this time our Mum, Ada has continued to work whilst caring for our dad, attending to all his health and medical needs; as well as, taking on all the financial responsibilities while staying positive and strong for our dad and the entire family. She has been our rock.

After suggestions from friends and family, we have set up this platform as a way for people to help support both our parents to ease the financial burden in hope of our mum spending more meaningful and quality time with our dad.

All funds raised will go directly to Roberto and Ada Melgar to cover the cost of medical and household expenses.
