Robert’s ALS Medical Fund

Hi everyone, my name is Catherine and my sister Caroline and I are starting this page to help with my Dad, Robert Bush, and his diagnosis of ALS. The severity of this cruel disease is unimaginable and for the past year my family and my father have been silently fighting it.

Robert was diagnosed early September 2022. Symptoms had been going on 8 months prior but doctors kept telling us he was okay. Shortly after the diagnosis, he completely lost his ability to speak and swallow on his own. He now has to be fed via feeding tube (Gastric Tube) and he recently started to communicate via eye-gaze technology. At this time, Robert has now also lost the complete use of his hands and arms, the mobility of his neck, and now needs 24/7 care and assistance. He will soon need a wheel chair. On June 24th, he fell and was hospitalized for respiratory issues which are a severe effect from the disease ALS. Simple daily tasks that we take for granted like eating, walking, and even brushing our teeth are just some of the few tasks that my dad can no longer do on his own. This disease has already taken so much away from our Dad and family. No one plans for these things to happen and unfortunately we need financial assistance as a family to continue to fight this and provide quality care to my Dad.

For the past few months, our mom has had to take leave from work to take care of our Dad. He is in need of acute, around the clock care immediately. The donations from this fundraiser will go towards hiring a nurse or caregiver. Donations will also be used for alternative medicine, stem cell therapy, physical therapy and specialist doctor visits. Our hope is that we can raise enough money to get our Dad to an overseas clinic that offers groundbreaking Stem Cell therapy for ALS patients that is not available in the USA.

If you have ever been blessed to meet our Dad, you know that he has a heart of gold. He’s the strongest and most passionate man we know. His passion for life and family is inspiring. Our father is a champion, he is a cancer survivor and he is a fighter. He’s a pillar to our community. He will not let this take him down. We are hopeful that we can get the treatment and the care that he needs as soon as possible.
