Robert's Fight for his Life

On 04/06/17 my good friend Robert Pukal suffered critical injuries in a fall from a ladder while on the job. Robert did not seek medical help on the day of the accident; he went to sleep and unfortunately in the morning of 04/07/17 did not wake up on his own. His wife Agata called the ambulance and Robert was transported to the St. Francis Hospital where he underwent an emergency surgery to open his skull and relieve bleeding on the brain. Robert also suffered a fracture to one of his cervical vertebrae.
After the surgery Robert was transported to the SICU in the Lutheran General hospital where he remains today. For a couple of days Robert was in a drug induced coma and now he is sedated to provide pain comfort. Robert remains unconscious, his breathing has to be assisted and his responsiveness to stimuli is very limited at the present time. The doctors so far refrained from providing any concrete prognosis but indicated that the hospitalization period, regardless of the final outcome, will be lengthy.
I have known Robert since 2001. I know Robert as friendly, energetic and optimistic guy who always went an extra mile to help others whenever his help was needed. Robert and his wife Agata love to entertain friends at their house in Evanston. Robert is an excellent cook who always found a way to awe his guests with his culinary creations.
Robert is self-employed and unfortunately does not presently have health insurance. However, this drive is not set up to collect funds to cover his hospitalization and other medical expenses as I am afraid those expenses will greatly exceed what a friendly grassroots initiative like this Go Fund Me page can deliver.
As mentioned above Robert will be hospitalized for at very least a month. It is uncertain at this point how quickly his recovery will progress, however, it is extremely unlikely that Robert will be able to return to work anytime soon.
By creating this page, I wish to provide Robert’s friends, colleagues, coworkers, clients, work partners, fellow sabre fencing parents and all the people who crossed paths with him and remember his exuberance and energy an opportunity to help Robert’s wife Agata and their children Bartosz and Magda with small financial relief in this most difficult time.

Przez dwa dni Robert byl w spiaczce farmakologicznej a teraz pozostaje pod wplywem silnych lekarstw usmierzajacych bol. Robert jest nieprzytomny, ma podawany tlen i jego reakcje na bodzce zewnetrzne nie sa dobre. Lekarze jak dotad nie podali konkretnych rokowan ale jasno okreslili, ze Robert bedzie w szpitalu przez dlugi okres.
Znam Roberta od 2001 roku. Znam go jako przyjaznego, energetycznego i zawsze optymistycznego czlowieka, ktory zawsze byl pierwszy do zaoferowania pomocy. Robert i jego zona Agata zawsze lubili przyjmowac gosci w swoim domu w Evanston i Robert ktory jest wysmienitym kucharzem zwykl oczarowywac wszystkich swoimi kulinarnymi kreacjami.
Robert ma wlasna firme kontraktorska i niestety w chwili wypadku nie mial ubezpieczenia zdrowotnego. Mimo to ta zbiorka nie jest zorganizowana po to by pokryc koszty leczenia. Obawiam sie ze te koszty wielokrotnie przewyzsza kwote jaka mozna zebrac poprzez strone Go Fund Me.
Nie wiadomo w tej chwili jak dlugo Robert bedzie pozostawal w szpitalu, nie wiadomo jakiej poprawy Robert dozna i jak szybko ta poprawa bedzie postepowac. Wydaje sie niestety pewne ze Robert nie bedzie w stanie wrocic do pracy przez dlugi okres.
