Robin Danar Cancer Treatment Fund
Donation protected
I'm starting this fundraiser for my friend Robin Danar. Robin was recently diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil and lymph node. He begins treatment this week (December 14 2020) and is fully optimistic about the outcome, although the protocol is still being developed. If the cancer hasn't metastasized, then there is an 80% success ratio for his treatment.
He's going to need substantial help with the costs and unknown expenses. He has limited insurance coverage but it will not come close to meeting his expenses such as "boutique drugs”, surgery with hospitalization, prepared foods through a feeding tube as he won’t be able to swallow. As well as paying for daily transport to and from treatment, and other assistance.
Robin is a music producer and engineer who has travelled the world for the last 40 years mixing live and studio sound for 1000's of artists including Laurie Anderson, Suzanne Vega, The B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, Bonnie Raitt The Church, Los Lobos, Sean Colvin, The Blue Nile, Ian Hunter, Shelby Lynn, Glen Hansard, Sia and many others.
When I worked at KCRW we put on multiple Sounds Eclectic Evening fundraisers for the station and Robin was our FOH engineer and co-production manager for shows that included live performances with artists such as Coldplay, Norah Jones, KD Lang, Moby, Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen, Damien Rice, Liz Phair, Aimee Mann, Beth Orton, Flaming Lips, and many others.
Robin has worked rooms as diverse as CBGB's, Sydney Opera House, The Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, even Central Park and Wembley. He has been the production manager at LA's Teragram ballroom since it's inception in 2013.
I've know Robin since we met at Bearsville studios in 1990 and he was creating the production for The Blue Nile's first US tour. Through the years I've seen him show up for artists too many times to mention. Now he needs the help of the music community to show up for him and help make this time easier for him financially as he deals with whatever the future holds.
Here's a link to an article about NFL coach Ron Rivera who recently underwent treatment for a similar cancer.
