Robin Mayo Hip Revision Recovery

Hi, my name is Melody and I am a friend of Robin Mayo. Robin is a well-rounded human; a caring mother, a published writer, graphic designer, bookkeeper and business consultant. She has been in Northern New Mexico/Taos since 2005 and contributes to our diverse community by serving on school boards and participating in groups that make a difference to the people who live here. Many of us have called upon Robin for support, and it is our time to contribute back to her.

Robin has a congenital hip disease and is in need of hip revision surgery and pelvic reconstruction. Her first replacement was 22 years ago and now needs to be revised. For the last few years since the covid crisis, Robin searched for an available expert surgeon for this complicated procedure. Finally, she found a qualified surgeon at UNM Albuquerque and she is waiting for him to be available for surgery. Robin's first hip replacement has now failed. She can no longer walk or is able to take care of normal hygiene needs, and is now residing in The Living Center in Taos.

Robin's 14 year old son, Estrello is being cared for by her long time friend, Wendy, who is currently staying at Robin's house. When she can, Wendy brings Robin healthy meals because The Living Center's food is barely eatable, with very little nutrition.

Here are the areas that this funding campaign will help:

1. Healthy Food.

We want to hire a cook who will work about 6 hours per week to cook meals to be delivered to Robin at the Living Center.

2. Medical Equipment for when Robin returns to her home.

Robin's home has stairs and is not set up for rehabilitation after the surgery. She will need a ramp and/or hydraulic lift for her wheelchair and sturdy rails installed in living spaces and bathroom. She may also need medical equipment that may not be covered by insurance.

3. General support for Robin's household.

She is not able to work at her various jobs and needs financial assistance for food, Estrello and general bills.
