Robin’s Melanoma Medical Expenses

Hi, my name is Robin, I’m a 32 year old wife to 1 and mom to 3. We are followers of Christ, homeschooling, chicken farmers, navigating an ongoing melanoma journey.

I have already been through Stage 3B Melanoma once from 2021-2023 having had surgery on my back and lymph nodes removed that came back positive. I completed 6/12 months of treatment and because of continuously clear scans my doctor allowed me to stop treatment early. I was deemed in remission in September 2023. In October 2023, I developed what I assumed to be Covid. Months went by and I assumed I was dealing with Long Covid. In January, after substantial hair loss and months and months of use of an inhaler I called my oncologist. Out of concern, he ordered a CT. It was there the 8mm pulmonary nodule was found and the radiologist noted it “highly suspicious”. An MRI and PET scan were ordered to look for evidence of metastatic disease. The 8mm nodule had a slight uptake of FDG avidity- meaning, it’s visible the cells are not normal but not yet large enough to confirm without a biopsy(8mm is about the size of a Cheerio). My doctor ordered me to wait 10 weeks to allow the nodule to grow so another PET can be done to confirm his suspicions and order a biopsy. Due to the location in the lung, that will be surgery.

As of 02/12/24, having had a CT with contrast, PET with contrast, MRI with contrast, oncology visit and bloodwork with a follow up PET with contrast scheduled we have already accumulated $2500 worth of medical bills plus expenses. My out of pocket maximum with my insurance is $3200.

Were at $3200 total so far and this does not include expected biopsy surgery and another visit with labs at minimum.
