Austin is one of those guys that puts family first.  Even before the kids were born, he and Tasha (Jennifer)  decided she would be the CEO of their household and stay home with the kids, while he went out and worked to provide for the family.  They never expected to be struggling with a debilitating medical issue that would keep Austin from working for such an extended period of time. The problem became noticeable in January. As Austin headed out to Florida for work, he was having some abdominal pain.  He kept it to himself thinking it was just a stomach ache. When he arrived in Florida, he realized something was really wrong and went to the ER. They admitted him and kept him 4 days. Tasha was afraid, as they were talking about a possible surgery on her husband who was in another state across the country! Luckily, they were able to stabilize him and he got back to Arizona. The diagnosis was Diverticulitis. He continued the medications and followed their instructions.  As the end of February drew near, he was admitted to the hosptial again with severe abdominal pain.  They discovered a perforation of his colon and had to perform a laproscopip surgery. They drained the infection and kept him hospitalized for about a week.  He was finally able to go home and be with his family.  He had antibiotics and thought he was on the mend. About a week and half after completion of the anitbiotics,  Austin realized he was having another episode while at work. Luckily, he went immediatly to the ER and they admitted him. This time his stay totaled 11 days. They first attempted the same laparoscopic procedure used previously to check things out, get drains connected, etc.  There was so much infection in his abdomen, it had literally pushed his organs out of place. They inadvertently punctured his small intestine during this procedure and had to open him up to clear the infection out, push his organs back into place and take care of the perforations / puncture. They also removed his appendix. He has had to endure drain lines through his nasal cavity down into his stomach, drain lines coming out of his abdomen, and no food for days on end. Just last week he was finally able to come home with a PICC line, which allowed Tasha to connect his antibiotic IV line every 6 hours.  He just wasn't improving, had no appetitie and was very weak. Tasha said his skin looked really grey.  He has lost a ton of weight as well. They called the doctor Saturday and he admitted Austin again. The new CT scan revealed another perforation.  Austin was dehydrated and certianly needed nourishment. They decided on emergency surgery Easter Sunday.  They opened him up again to check things out, change his drain tubes and deal with the perforation in his colon. They also perfomed a colostomy.  He has tubes to drain the infection and also a tube again through his nasal cavity down into his stomach to keep anything from moving further through his system. Currently, he can't have anything to eat or drink....they won't even let him have ice chips. They expect him to be hospitalized another 5 to 10 days, depending on his healing progress. Austin is motived to get out of there and has already stood up.  He needs to avoid adding any further complications like blood clots and pneumonia.  Some of this is just out of his control though, so prayers are definitely appreciated.  Austin will require at least one additional surgery for a colon resection, but his colon has to rest and recover first. It is unlikely they will be able to perform this needed surgery for at least another 8 weeks, up to 6 months.  It is unknown when he will be able to return to work. If you ask Austin...it will be quick.  He isn't the type of man to sit around and is anxious to get back to work and life in general. We all know he needs to heal though, and I am hoping a little financial help will ease his mind so he can take the time to heal properly before he rushes back to work. If you able to offer anything to this great family, I know they would appreciate it.  And if you are not in a position to contribute financially, they really appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
