Rochelle Middle School Band (Kinston, NC)

We are the Rochelle Middle School (RMS) Band from Kinston, North Carolina. In a “normal” school year, our band would be preparing for home football games, holiday concerts, and performances throughout our community. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our new sense of “normal” requires more of us facilitators in order to meet the needs of our talented young musicians. This “new normal” will not eliminate arts from our school, but will reshape how the arts are displayed.
We recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a financial burden on all families. Some of our families who want to ensure their scholars have access to an arts education simply cannot afford the cost of the materials. Instruments for our band program roughly cost between $300 to $400 per student to purchase. This does not include the money needed for required accessories and routine maintenance costs throughout the year. Our goal is to ease the financial burden on our families, so that all children can participate in the Rochelle Middle School Band program.
Your donation will help students by providing the following:
Instruments: flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion
Music stands for home use
Instrument-specific accessories: cleaning rods and cloths, cork grease, reeds, and slide oil
COVID-19 protective materials: masks to wear while playing instruments, instrument covers, and face shields
Rochelle Middle School is the only school in Lenoir County that has earned the title of an A+ School. This distinguishes that our school “teaches the state’s mandated curriculum in a collaborative, multi-disciplined way, with the arts woven into every aspect of a child’s learning experience”. Equally important, our school resides in a town that thrives on the history of African American musicians and jazz. Not only will your donation mean the world to our Rochelle Family, but the impact will be felt all throughout the Kinston community. Rochelle is Resiliency in Action.
