Rockin' for Mike: Helping Leslie Keep the Music Alive

Hey everyone,
As you’ve heard, we just lost one of the good ones. Mike Dushek, Leslie’s husband for over 32 years and Danielle, Emily and Katie’s devoted father, an amazing son and brother, and friend to us all, has left the stage way too soon. Many of you have asked how you can help, and that's why we're reaching out now.
If you knew Mike, you know he was all about rock 'n' roll and living life to the fullest, and finding inspiration in some of nature's more... relaxing herbs. This is our way of coming together to honor his memory and support Leslie and the girls.
Who Was Mike?
Laid back guy with a smile on his face, guitar in one hand, a heart of gold in the other. That was Mike. He loved to play music, listen to music, or just hang out with pretty much anyone and everyone. The Rock Hall was one of his favorite places, and he gave many of us his own guided tour there. He loved watching car races, the Blackhawks, and even the Packers (nobody’s perfect ) He had a way of lighting up any room he entered (sometimes literally), and always knew how to mellow out a tense situation. Leslie and the girls were his biggest fans, on and off stage. He was definitely of the “make new friends, but keep the old” variety, and he and we were so happy he got to see so many of the important people in his life during his 18 month “farewell tour” after his diagnosis.
Why We're Passing the Hat
Leslie is incredibly shy about asking for help, but we all know how tough things can get. We're looking to:
1) Give Mike an epic send-off (you know he'd want us to turn it up to 11)
2) Help Leslie catch her breath financially after taking time (and savings) off to care for and be with Mike over the past 2 years
The Goal
We're aiming for $5,000. It's not stadium tour money, but it'll help keep the lights on and give Mike the celebration he deserves. Anything you can chip in is huge.
How to Join the Band
- Throw in a few bucks if you can
- Spread the word to anyone who ever played music with Mike or heard him perform at Church or with Generation Rx, went to a concert or sporting event, or even shared a laugh with him
- Keep Leslie, Danielle, Emily and Katie and Mike’s other family in your thoughts during this tough time
- Try to think of a memory of Mike that DOESN’T make you smile - really hard to do, right?
Remember, every little bit helps – whether it's the price of a guitar pick or a whole amp, it all adds up.
