Rockingham Beach ESC Sensory Room

Welcome to our fundraiser for a Sensory Room at Rockingham Beach Education Support Centre.

We are a Primary School in Rockingham WA, who provides education for children with extra learning needs and both physical and mental disabilities.

Why do we need a Sensory Room?

Children learn about their world through these senses. As the child’s understanding of this sensory input increases their awareness of the world around them increases. Children with disabilities often have difficulty with one or more aspects of their sensory system. When a child’s individual sensory needs are met, this allows for a just right level of arousal. If their sensory needs are not met, they become either over or under alert. Being in the ‘just right’ state of arousal is the optimum state for learning and functioning.

The proposed Sensory Room will available to all children at the school and will be a much needed space for everyone. Please, with your help we can make this happen.

As well as the refitting of the space and structural adaptations, items we hope to purchase will be:

• Wall mounted Fan lights

• Brush-ended fibre optics

• UV activity light, mirror, and assorted UV items

• UV drawing board.

• Tactile Bins – Alerting and calming.

• Catherine wheel lights – ceiling mounted.

• Vibrating Floor mat

• Aroma station

• Spaghetti fibre optics and fibre optic mats

• Bubble tube/s

• Hologram projector

• Colour light projector or Disco Ball

• Vestibular Hammock – attached to ceiling.

• Vibrating chair/cushions
