Rocky Mountain Honor Guard
Donation protected
The legacy of Duke the Funeral Horse is reborn - we are now Rocky Mountain Honor Guard!!
For twenty years Lorraine Melgosa provided horse drawn hearse services throughout Colorado and neighboring states for law enforcement killed in the line of duty, troops killed in action and other active duty deaths at no charge to the families.
Ms Melgosa had to retire in 2013 due to health reasons.
In the first few weeks of 2018, three Colorado peace officers were killed in the line of duty prompting Ms Melgosa to rethink her retirement. She reached out to several friends and with the efforts of Lorraine, Joe and Kim Moseley and Linda Maifield, they all set about to breath new life into Duke's legacy and create the Rocky Mountain Honor Guard.
We are a registered corporation with the State of Colorado and have submitted the necessary paperwork with the IRS to be classified as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Rocky Mountain Honor Guard can accept donations which will be tax deductible retroactively upon IRS approval.
All donations received will be used to cover the expenses of once again providing horse drawn hearse services to fallen law enforcement, troops killed in action and veterans, all at no cost to the families. In the interim, horses have been purchased and are in the early stages of training, the trailer has to be refurbished and a power unit has been identified.
We are now asking for the many supporters of law enforcement and military to help us further bring the Rocky Mountain Honor Guard to life. We pray that we will never lose another peace officer or troop, but also know that the threat is ever present and we are asking you to help them. Let us show our law enforcement and military that our support is more than just a "Back the Blue" or "Support our Troops" decal.
