Rod and Kim Ashby Fundraiser- Hurricane Helene Relief
Donation protected
Help us raise funds for Rod and Kim Ashby.
As many of you know, my mom, Kim Ashby has been missing since September 27th when Hurricane Helene swept her and my stepdad's vacation home into Elk River. After several days, Rod was evacuated safely and has been living at our home along with many other family members who have gathered to band together during this difficult time. If you're interested in reading more about this story, please reference the following article: USA Today.
Search and rescue efforts have been underway since September 29th to no avail. Our hearts are breaking more each day, but no one has been more mentally and emotionally impacted than Rod. Kim and Rod have dedicated their lives to public service, Kim as a NC teacher for over 20 years and Rod serving in the U.S. Navy and retiring after 30 years of service. With everything they've given to our community over the course of their lives, it is our turn to help them in their time of need. We can't do much to help them physically or emotionally, but we can help lift the financial burden this disaster has caused them.
Rod... and hopefully Kim will need help with the following:
- The loss of their home and property not covered by insurance
- The loss of Rod's truck not covered by insurance
- Medical bills/ mental health services
- Funeral/ memorial services (hopefully not)
Any additional funds raised above what's needed to cover the above will be donated to the following:
- Elk Park Volunteer Fire Department- Took in Kim's brother as one of their own while he waited for news from search teams. Offered him food, drink, access to cell phones and basically anything they had. And most importantly they offered him comfort and hope.
- Kim and Rod's neighbors in Elk Park who have also lost their homes and/or have been on scene relentlessly assisting with rescue efforts.
- Assistance for rural mountain communities who do not have the resources to rebuild.
We have no expectations and any amount you feel inspired to give will have a profound impact, no matter how small.
