Rodney Kay - Artist

For several years during his retirement, Rod and a fellow artist, ran ‘Artability Classes’ in Baslow and Calver - where they taught elderly and disabled people to paint. This was a therapeutic activity organised by the local Doctor’s Practice. Here Rod shared his lifelong passion for painting - passing on all the tips and tricks he had acquired through his years of practice.

Typical of our father, who so many people have told us they thought so highly of, is that even after his death he found a way to help others. For example, he made a bequest of his body to help medical science and education through the University of Sheffield Medical Teaching Unit.

So, to continue in the spirit of his generosity, we have set up this fund for donations to support his belief in the therapeutic benefits of Art.

We are raising money in aid of IGNITE IMAGINATIONS - A community Arts Organisation, based in Sheffield, where every donation will help support them to celebrate and connect communities through art and creativity.

Ignite Imaginations aims to make every Sheffield community a creative place. We deliver creative workshops and events that give people the chance to participate, be creative and imaginative, and develop new creative skills.

We work across the city with people of all ages and backgrounds where creativity is needed the most. All our work is free for those taking part; we work in partnership with every project connecting with the organisations rooted in communities who can support and represent the needs of local people.

We work in communities that are under-represented within the arts sector including but not exclusively to children facing economic deprivation, adults accessing services supporting their physical, learning or mental health needs, community/voluntary sector groups representing and supporting individuals connected to economic status, ethnic background, faith, gender or connection to the community.
