Rod Pardox cancer fund
Donation protected
We would like to ask you to help a very good friend of ours that currently is going through cancer treatment. His name is Rod Pardox, he’s 42 years old and lives in Fairfax, VA. Rod never smoked and has always had a very healthy life style. Up until now he’s never been seriously sick.
Last year Rod underwent surgery to remove adenoids and the doctor decided just to take a biopsy. Unfortunately that did not take care of the problem.
In January 2015 Rod was diagnosed with nasal pharyngeal cancer. The cancer is stage four but without spreading. It is a rare kind of cancer. This is especially tragic since his own father died from the same cancer at the age of 56.
In February 2015 doctors told him he will have to go through chemotherapy. He’s already undergone the first of the 3 rounds of chemotherapy and he is due for the second batch in two weeks. Each chemo cycle is 5 days.
Rod is very brave, optimistic and positive and deal very well with the pain that the cancer, the treatment and the recovery bring. According to the doctor he is responding very well to the treatment, the tumor already reduced its size.
Rod was working as a real estate agent, but due to his sickness and unbearable headaches he needed to stop working. Now he is too weak and dizzy to work. Because of the location of this cancer he cannot eat orally, his throat does not let any food to pass by. He feeds himself with a plastic tube inserted directly into his stomach. Some days he is not allowed to drink water at all, per the doctor’s orders; all he can think about on these days is a sip of water.
He does not own any property, and cannot take out any equity loan to pay his rent or medical bills. He already sold his car, which was not yet fully paid off, to pay his bills. He does not have a spouse or any kind of disability insurance (short or long term). As he was healthy and young he never thought about buying any kind of disability insurance. Self-employment also did not help; he did not have the safety net that working for a large corporation can provide. At this point he has no income, and has not had an income since last year. For a while now he is living and paying his bills from his savings and money he got from selling his car. At this point however he almost has no money left. He cannot return to work for while due to his treatment and side effect of the treatment. However, he wants to return to work very badly, even he dreams about it, but it is out of question.
We think Rod needs to concentrate on the recovery and stop worrying about his rent and medical bills (hospital visits, treatment, prescriptions); therefore, we ask you to contribute to his fund. Any amount of money you donate will be greatly appreciated.
Some of us probably know how it is if we are sick, too sick to work, too sick to actually do anything. Always in pain, from the moment we wake up to the moment we lay down to sleep. And some of us don’t. Either way most of us are healthy now enjoying our lives, planning for the future. Most of us have jobs, nice income and the ability to do things we love and enjoy. So, let’s be humble for a moment, appreciate what we have and think about those who are less fortunate.
Thank you for any amount of donation.
