***Update*** just wanted to let everyone know papa is still with us and the nurse said it could be another few days.
Hello, my name is Laura. I come to you humbly, asking for help in cremating my father and carrying out his final wishes.
It’s a lot to ask, I know, especially in these trying times. My dad was a good man. A humble man. He gave and gave, never asking anybody for anything in return. Through his lifetime, he was a SGT in the Marine Corps, and received an honorable discharge. Not long after that he was hired on and quickly moved up the ranks in the El Monte Fire Department. He served in the fire department for 30 years and retired as Battalion Chief. He has touched many lives across the country. He raised many children, and not all of them were his. But he stepped up to the plate and provided for each and every one of them as if they were his own. He helped selflessly and ALWAYS put himself last. He is on hospice now and in the process of transitioning. We had a difficult talk a week ago about what his wishes were, and that is when he shared with me that he has no plans in place and no money to do so. He thought the military would pay for everything, and that is not the case. The only time it is free is if they died in the line of duty. I just wish he had known that it was not covered because he would never have wanted us to have to go through this. Anything helps, of course. Our goal is to be able to have him cremated and take him home with us.
Thank you from the very bottom of my heart. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.
With Respect,
Laura
