UPDATE 7/22/24
Dearest family and friends,
Many of you have probably already seen the announcement of my precious brother Mark’s sudden passing. This was completely unexpected and shocking to our core. On Wednesday, 7/17, we got the amazing news that our dad, Roger, was in full remission. I received a text in flight as I was on my way home and cried tears of joy. The Dr. shared that his body had responded remarkably to the radiation and chemo treatment over the last 3 months. The lesion on his lung that started this is GONE! The tumors on his spine, GONE! The tumors on some of his organs, GONE! There are others that have diminished significantly and will be monitored closely along with a brain MRI to track recovery. Our dad will have a series of immune therapy infusions to strengthen his body. A few short hours after we received this amazing praise report, my dear brother had a massive heart attack on his way back from an afternoon prayer walk. We are heart broken and in shock. God has shown us His great love and care through many people over the last 4 days. My parents have been supported and loved on by neighbors, friends, old and new. God has provided financially for the funeral costs miraculously. We’ve been overwhelmed by the articles and posts shared by the pro-life organizations and many friends of Mark. The needs continue to be great and your support in prayer is much needed. Thank you to all those that have given and are yet to give. Thank you to those that have never even met us but felt led to give. We are blessed beyond words for your generosity and care. The donations made will continue to support our dads recovery and treatment and allow for other funds to provide honoring celebrations for my amazing brother Mark. We don’t know what the future holds but we know who holds the future! May God grant you great peace and joy.
UPDATE 5/5/24
We wanted to share with you the most current update on our amazing Dad, Roger.
Our Dad continues to be in severe pain from the occipital neuralgia. Monday, May 5, Roger will have the second phase of targeted radiation treatment (first was 5 intense days of radiation on 5 lesions), this time on two lesions in his brain. This will involve several days of treatment after which a plan for chemotherapy will be made. Please know we are fully confident that God is not done with Roger yet and we will see God’s promises fulfilled. We are so grateful for the faithful friends and family that have given to this GoFundMe and in other ways as well. Please know that the financial needs continue to be a great burden. Expenses such as countless copays, medications, some treatments uncovered by insurance, transportation, nourishing foods, and all the day to day needs already present in a missionary family’s life. Thank you for helping us reach our goal. Our Dad, or to many Pastor Story, has ministered to so many of you and others over the course of his life. Even in his pain and discomfort now he continues to minister daily. Let’s show him all the support we can right now through financial support and faith filled prayers! We believe God’s power will continue to be revealed through Roger’s cancer journey.
“that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
Isaiah 41:20 ESV
On March 22 we were told that our father, Roger Story, would need surgery to remove 2 large tumors from his brain and treatment on several other smaller tumors throughout his body. This came exactly 2 years after his very successful quadruple bypass. Prior to this, he had a very active, healthy lifestyle and continued so since his bypass surgery. But we are grateful that God orchestrated every detail and on April 2 he had a "successful surgery" that they were “astonished by” according to the surgeon and staff. Praise God! God brought many Christian doctors and nurses to his side. He talks about all the God appointed fellowship and prayer that was had while in the hospital. We have heard from God many times in the last weeks that God’s Glory will be seen with human eyes through this journey. We have already seen miracles with a successful surgery and positive recovery thus far. Roger begins targeted, laser radiation treatment on April 10 and is prayerfully seeking God’s wisdom for further treatments to come.
These unexpected events have brought many new needs above and beyond the everyday financial needs of a faith-based ministry, missionary life. Our parents, Roger and Lin, have served in ministry for over 50 years, both locally and abroad. They have served almost 35 years in Washington, DC as missionaries, serving in miraculous ways to our country with the leading of the Holy Spirit. They love others so well and are always giving of their creativity, talent, time and ministry as the Holy Spirit leads. Even in the hospital our father had countless opportunities to minister God’s great love to endless nurses and doctors. One doctor told Roger that he had made a very big impact on the hospital staff and teams serving him. Now is a time of recovery and healing. It is also a time for others to stand in the gap in prayer and also financial support, as some do faithfully. We are so grateful for faithful family, supporters, and friends that have given so selflessly already and have prayed so fervently with us. This is just the beginning! We believe with a child like faith and pray boldly for God to reveal His glory through the testimony that is unfolding in Roger’s life and our family. Thank you for considering a gift of any amount to help alleviate much burden and help to further their physical recovery so they can continue to minister at full capacity as they are called. Your generous donations will cover many uncovered medical expenses, copays, transportation to and from treatments, a new mechanical chair, healthy food, and any other daily needs that may occur. Thank you and may God greatly bless you!
