Rogue builders ruin disabled lady's Christmas
Donation protected
Hi my name is Kelly and I am fundraising on behalf of an incredible lady who has been left living in one room of her house due to the scandalous acts of some rogue builders.
Jenny* lives on just £234 a month and is disabled. She had the opportunity to buy her property from the housing association. At this point, she was working full time so had the funds to save and pay for building works that needed to be completed to improve the house. The builder has taken the funds and left Jenny with a house that is now totally unliveable. A solid fuel burner was installed but has since been unfit to use by a gas engineer. Electric wires are now hanging down through the ceiling, and walls are back to bare plaster, there is half-laid flooring and exposed pipework throughout the property. Jenny is now left banished to one bedroom to live in as the rest of the house is so bad and in reality, should probably be condemned in its current state. The recent cold snap has been incredibly difficult for Jenny with no heating or lighting in her home and she is currently left with very little choice. Her health has since deteriorated due to the stress and her current living conditions, She has had to give up work and is now reliant on benefits of just £234 per month, meaning that she is unable to save to get the work completed.
Jenny is receiving help from Caring Communities and People (CCP) who have contacted local builders merchants and have gained support from Cosgrove & Drew, a mechanical engineering company that has offered to take on some of the work. I heard Jenny's story and just knew that we had to try and make a difference in her life.
I know that times are tough for everyone right now, but as we enter 2023 this kind of act should not be allowed to happen and with a little support, we can get Jenny back on her feet and living in her entire house, not just one room.
Your donation will help to buy the materials that are required and go towards some of the labour costs to get this project finished for Jenny.
*Jenny is extremely vulnerable and therefore her name has been changed for safeguarding purposes.
