rogue wave season 3.5

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Catherine Messina. I am a professional dancer and creator operating between New York and Atlanta.

I run rogue wave, a contemporary company based in New York City. I also founded and direct Fall for Fall/Spring for Spring and co-direct the unKEMpT Dance Festival and wild.mess affordable class series. These community festivals and classes continue my mission of uplifting local choreographers and teachers to showcase their own work and pedagogy.

As director, I have lead rogue wave for three years. Rogue wave uses neuroscience as a jumping-off point for creation. My movement lives at the intersection of scientific research with humanity and humor and big bodied floorwork with gestural specificity. But what I care about most is making community in the room.

What has rogue wave done in those three (and a half) years?
-Employed thirteen dancers, five photographers/videographers, four lighting specialists, and more
-Premiered two evening length works gap junction and bouquet in New York and Atlanta with grant support from Indie Space and the Atlanta Science Festival
-Taught at seven universities, most recently being the choreographer-in-residence at Sacred Heart University
-Residencies in Connecticut and Wisconsin
-Traveled to Connecticut, Atlanta, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Rochester to perform
-Performed across NYC including the outdoor, public dance festivals of San Gennaro and Dance Parade NYC
-Given dancers the opportunity to set work on the company or teach company class

What are we surfing towards next season?
-Our first gala at Pink FROG Cafe on June 7th, 2024
-A residency at the Harvey School in upstate New York (August 2024)
-A split-bill of shorter works at The Tank in Midtown Manhattan (projected September 2024)
-A new evening length at Center for Performance Research (December 2024) entitled '(my battery is low) and it is getting dark'
-Performing for new festivals in the city such as Six Degrees of Separation, Queens Outdoor Dance Festival, and more
-Continued efforts for teaching, festivals, classes!

I am so grateful for every opportunity we have been given. And, I am so excited to do this for the rest of my life. As always, my first and foremost priority is getting all money back into the hands of all participating artists. I continue to apply for grants and opportunities to offset costs, but as we continue to grow, I turn to the community for aid. Your donations would cover the following:
-Increased artist pay
-Cost of studio space rental
-Compensation for videographers and photographers
-Providing meals for team on travel
