Tough times for for tough decisions. This was one i had to make...it was easy to want to do something for my staff, but it isn't easy for me to ask for help from others, as most people around me know.
With the closing of both bars i have 16 regular employees that are really in a tight spot. Normally i am in a position to take care of them when they need something, but this time i am not as we dont know what is to come of this pandemic. I am hoping for the best and shortest closure time, but have to be ready for the worst...and being ready for that really ties my hands in any ability to help my staff out as I need to make sure that my both bars are going to still be there ready to open, even stronger this time around, when the time comes.
I have been doing what i can to try and help them find jobs in the mean time to make ends meet, and we will be doing some cleaning days and organizing etc at the bars as well....but even with all this it isn't enough. There is so many people looking for work right now...more and more every day and more and more places are closing or laying off every day.
The staff DID NOT ASK ME TO DO THIS, AND I AM ALSO NOT TAKING A PENNY OF THIS FOR MYSELF. THIS GOFUNDME IS STRICTLY FOR MY 16 BARTENDERS, BARBACKS AND SECURITY PERSONNEL THAT WISH TO UTILIZE THIS MONEY SO THEY CAN PURCHASE FOOD, PAY RENT, INSURANCE, ETC ETC....HOWEVER THEY SEE FIT/NEED TO USE THE MONEY. I will divide the money up evenly between the all of the staff. We have a few that work other jobs and will be ok through this and they already agreed to give their cut of this to the other staff members. Im basing this number on a 3-4 week closure, but obviously it could be longer, and obviously we will take more donations that the goal if people are feeling giving.
If you have some money to help out please do what you can. If you dont have money to help out, that is fine also...we dont EXPECT anything from anyone....AND IF YOU JUST HAVE SOMETHING SHITTY TO SAY ABOUT THIS THEN DONT GIVE US ANYTHING AND MOVE ALONG! THIS DOESNTCONCERN YOU OR CHANGE YOUR LIFE ONE BIT.
Last bit of "insight" on this whole scenario when it comes to bartenders, bar staff, etc.....Not only is the money part killing us, but not seeing customers and taking care of people is killing us. We are social people and people that like to please others, have a good time, throw a party, be social, etc Whether we know your name when you come in or maybe you are just "jack and coke guy" that sits in the corner and minds his own business every night....we miss you, we miss our normal lives, we miss making people smile. This is not just a job, it is a way of life. So even if you can't donate anything what means as much is just drop a line to a bartender and ask em how they are doing, tell em you can't wait to come see em for a Busch Light as soon as we open the doors again...and let them know it'll be ok and we will get through this.
I am feeling hard for my SIN crew that work for me and ones at other spots as well right now, but we know that we are not the only business's that are getting crushed by this, and changing day to day activities drastically. If you need something hit up me or my staff and we will help in whatever way possible! (maybe you need a bartender at your gathering of 9 or less....with a security guy not letting the 10th person in the door :)
we wont forget the people who helped us through these times, and appreciate anything and everything you can do. These are not just my friends and employees...every single person that works for me i consider family.
thats it, this is to long already. We love you Milwaukee, and we love you fellow SIN peeps. I have a feeling all the hard times we have had together as an industry over the past few months which then in turn we turned into beautiful amazing things will somehow come back in our favor. its hard to see where or when that might be coming from the way things are going but lets keep hoping, it’ll happen. Keep your heads up and get ready to come back stronger than ever!
