Help Milwaukee Rohingya Community 'Build' a Center
Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Anuwar Kasim and I created this GoFundMe page to benefit the Burmese Rohingya Community of Wisconsin (BRCW) towards the purchase of our first headquarter. 100% of the proceeds will go towards purchasing an old church located at 2330 W Scott St, in Milwaukee and launching our community center. The Rohingya community has come together to help fundraise for this space, however since most of our members make below poverty lines, we've raised a mere fraction of the cost of the building. We hope to raise $300,000 by May 14th (agreed upon closing date) using this GoFundMe, our own personal finances, and governmental and corporate outreach. We thank you all sincerely for helping us fulfill our dream of providing a safe space for our community!
BRCW was founded in 2016 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit by a group of friends helping other members in our community connect to resources to overcome language, cultural, technological, and healthcare barriers encountered on a daily basis. Since then, we have helped hundreds of families with resettlement assistance through access to housing, food, education, work, and health care. We support the largest Burmese-Rohingya population in America.
We have had a big impact, however, BRCW remains a grassroots affair. Our workforce is entirely comprised of volunteers working tirelessly outside of our own jobs. There is much work to be done, given the current political unrest and the active persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar, as an added stressor to the disproportionate impact of the Covid pandemic. We hope to create a space that will serve the evolving needs of our growing community. Please help us build a safe space for our refugee community. The Burmese Rohingya community of Wisconsin thank you so much for your support!
