Roland Weeks Recovery Fund

Donation protected
My dad, Roland Larry Weeks, was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis (a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred) in the Spring of 2019, and his health has been in a rapid decline for the last year. He has been unable to breath effectively for over a year, resulting in his inability to walk across a room. With him being largely chair bound, he and his family looked for solutions. We had many tests run, tried experimental drugs, and were finally able to get him on a transplant list.

On Friday, October 23rd, 2020, Roland finally received the call we had been waiting for – a match! On Saturday, October 24th at 4:55 am, Dr. Tobias Deuse and his team surgeons conducted a double lung transplant at UC San Francisco Medical Center. Roland is currently in recovery and will remain under hospital care for a minimum of 2 months before being cleared to go home. Once released, he will need to continue to take 15 daily medications to ensure that his organs do not reject the new lungs over time. He will be taking these medications for the rest of his life.

For those that know my dad, Roland, he is a warm hearted, loving, and compassionate person. One who would, in his moments of strength, help his fellow man with whatever they needed. He has always been first in line to help those in need. He has a larger-than-life personality, and his smile, boisterous voice, and laughter is only matched by the size of his heart. After the unexpected passing of his late wife in 2004, my dad raised his three biological sons and her three sons as a single dad. Roland is known as a man of faith, who regularly supports his community in their times of need, helping people move and refurbish their homes, and as a Boy Scout leader. He is also known for being a dedicated employee, who worked tirelessly as a skilled electrician for Raley's for 20 years until his union pushed him into retirement.

Roland has been under financial hardship since the medical condition started, paying upwards of $2000 a month for insurance because he is not yet eligible for Medicare. His doctors recommended he seek fundraising by using GoFundMe in order to pay for his looming medical bills, which is why I have created this page.

We ask that you find the compassion to help Roland in his time of need, a compassion you likely have been/ would have been awarded if you knew my dad in his time of strength. My family and I appreciate any support you can give – whether that be monetarily, spiritually, sharing this page, or kind words/ stories below that we can share with him. Thank you.
