Roll 4 Change GTA

Since 1999, The Refuge has been working with youth who are either experiencing homelessness, are at-risk of experiencing homelessness, or who are struggling. More than just a place to find breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry facilities, access to clothing, personal hygiene products, and housing help, The Refuge is a place where youth can find community, safety, belonging and a renewed hope for their future. In 2021 The Refuge purchased a new building so that they may offer more services to help our youth achieve their goals and support our future! The new building is under construction and it requires a lot of work. Once it's completed, the building will extend Refuge to those youth who need somewhere safe to live, with 27 small apartments, a gymnasium, community kitchen and office spaces. This summer I'm looking to give back to The Refuge again, for all they have done for our community. I'm looking to provide a vehicle for local businesses and individuals to not only help local youth but to get outside, see other people and participate in a healthy activity along side them. Let's roll together to create more positive change! On June 10th 2023 our "Rollers" will Rollerblade, bike, skateboard or otherwise roll from Oshawa to Toronto or between one or more of our checkpoints in between. Checkpoints will be located at each major city's beach (Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Rouge Beach). Each checkpoint will collect donations in the form of clothing, non-perishable food items and cash while housing water and snacks for our Rollers. Individual Rollers or Families will register ahead of the event and any local business owners who register a team or sponsor the event will have their logo presented online and can be displayed at the event. Businesses will have the opportunity to post about their business on our social media platforms and will be featured in our online videos to advertise the event and thank our sponsors. We are expecting over hundreds of people to show face at the event and exponentially more to see what we're doing online!
