Rollin' for Rock's Research

Donation protected
Rock's research investigates environmental contamination that disproportionately impacts community health in Indian Country. I roller skated 2,000 miles across the United States to support Dr. Tommy Rock (Navajo/Dine') and his team of intertribal and intergenerational Native researchers and storytellers.

Dozens of roller skaters across the nation have picked up the baton and are collecting pledges for the miles they're skating to donate while modeling safe physical distancing protocols.  We're Rolling for Rock’s Research!

A recent Harvard study on long-term exposure to air pollution and COVID-19 mortality in the United States Conclusions found that a small increase in long-term exposure to fine particulate matter leads to a much higher COVID-19 death rate. In Indian Country, the links between various diseases and exposure (or proximity) to uranium mining and milling waste have been well documented. Dr. Rock believes that these environmental contaminants are exacerbating the COVID-19 pandemic on the Navajo Nation, which has the highest per capita infection rate in the U.S.

A COVID-19 Climate Evaluation Research Team has been established to provide a Rapid Response Health Analysis to measure the relationship between environmental contaminants and infection. Your donations will help the team conduct the required research and provide relief for the Navajo Nation. We're all responsible for recognizing and respecting Native Lands.

Note: All proceeds go towards research. No donations will be allocated towards the roller skating trek.

Update:
We are hosting a screening of the film Gather on October 24th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time, recommended by First Nations Development Institute, at only $5 y'all can be entertained, contribute to a good cause, and gain valuable insight on justice initiatives in Indian Country!

We received a $5,000 grant from a non-profit that wishes to remain anonymous until officially announcing their grantees - can't wait to share!

We adjusted our $100,000 total goal again to reflect the recent grants we've received as well as donations from our amazing solidarity skaters' efforts.

Donations made on other platforms will also be directed to research. Special thanks to family, friends and community members for their donations that kickstarted the initiative. These donations have taken us $2,812.07 closer to our goal!

Another thank you to the Decolonizing Wealth Project, who has pledged between $15-20,000 so long as we can fundraise the rest! We have subtracted total donations and pledges from our total to better depict how much father we have to go. Thank you so much for your support.
