Roller Derby Travel Fund for Sasheen (Bash-Full)

Donation protected
My name is Emmaline, aka BEETLEJUKES, and I am looking for fundraising to help get my teammate Bash-Full to New Orleans and eventually the World Cup!

Sasheen Welsey, aka Bash-Full #23, is looking for funding to join her team Team Indigenous Rising at the Y’all Stars Southern Skate Showdown in New Orleans on February 24th, 2023, as well as Las Vegas in August.

Sasheen is from Kitselas First Nation and Lax Kw Alaams, B.C. She is from the house of T’ax’ayee and her tribe is Gisbutwada (Killerwhale). She is a mother of six, grandmother of one, with three of her children still at home full time. She works full time as a Supervisor for A2Z Cleaning Service.

She started Roller Derby in Terrace B.C. in 2013 with the North Coast Nightmares. She coached the Juniour Night Terrors from 2017-2018 and went on to play with Team Indigenous in the World Cup in 2018. Sasheen Continued to play with the North Coast Nightmares until 2020, where she lost her mother to cancer. She gave up Roller Derby, as well as her own commercial cleaning business, and almost her life. Consumed by grief and depression, along with the loss of her uncle and Grandparents, Sasheen moved to Prince George for a fresh start where she has been rebuilding her life.

In Prince George she was invited to practice with Rated PG Roller Derby. As soon as she put her skates on, her passion for Roller Derby was reignited, with more determination and focus than ever before.

Last year Sasheen once again made the roster for Team Indigenous Rising for the 2023/2024 season. Team Indigenous is represented by skaters from all over Turtle Island, Sasheen is the only team member from British Columbia. They use their platform to show other athletes and community members what is possible for Indigenous teams and sports across tribes, borders and nations. Their mission as a team is to provide a space where Indigenous Roller Derby players are able to share their experiences together where they are seen, heard and represented 100% of the time.

Practice space and time has been limited for Rated PG Roller Derby, but that hasn't stopped Sasheen from staying determined and keeping up with her fitness goals. She spends her free time at the gym, where she meets with her personal trainer weekly, as well as at Angel's Aerial Fitness.

Roller Derby is self funded and volunteered. Funding would help pay for the costs associated with training and travel.

Due to the members of Team Indigenous being so spread out, they are unable to practice together. Any game Sasheen is able to attend with them is vital so they can grow as a team before their participation in the next Roller Derby World Cup.
