Roman's Kidney Transplant Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Roman was born with BOR syndrome which is a rare, hereditary condition that has progressed to a stage 4 kidney disease. This condition has not allowed Roman to play any sports especially soccer which is his passion. Without a donor, he will likely need to start dialysis as a teen. His mom and dad have been searching for quite a while and even presented his situation to his local hometown news channel to see if anyone was courageous enough to help Roman out. Well, their efforts paid off! Roman just found out this week that his Geometry teacher, Eddie McCarthy, from Whitmer High School is donating a kidney!! The surgery will take place on Wednesday July 19th at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan, which is at least an 1 hour away from their home in Toledo Ohio. Although this is the best news ever for Roman the financial impact on his family will be significant. Roman's healing process will take up to at least 6 weeks before he can be active and possibly go back to school. The ongoing expenses such as medical bills, extensive travel to and from Dr’s appointments for follow-up visits, hotel stays, and of course food expenses that the family just can't afford at this time. In addition, Roman's parents will be taking time off of work to care for Roman while he heals. Roman also has 3 other siblings that his parents have to care for as well.
Please help this wonderful family with a contribution via this Go Fund Me. I know that they would greatly appreciate your generosity as I suspect you would if you were in the same situation.
Please take a moment and watch the segment that Good Morning America did today to recognize Roman and his courageous teacher
