Romans top surgery cost

Dear friends, family, and compassionate allies,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Roman, and I am reaching out to you today with an important and personal request. I am an 18yr old transgender individual seeking your support in raising funds for my FTM (female-to-male) top surgery.

For as long as I can remember, I have grappled with a disconnect between my gender identity and my physical appearance. I found the nerve during the height of the pandemic to face my fears, and come out to my parents, informing them of my daily internal struggles. l explained how each day, I feel the weight of dysphoria, which significantly impacts my self-confidence, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. However, I have found the courage to take a significant step towards aligning my physical body with my true self through top surgery.

I understand that top surgery is a life-changing procedure that involves the removal of breast tissue and the creation of a more masculine chest contour. By undergoing this surgery, I hope to alleviate the emotional distress and discomfort caused by the incongruence between my gender identity and my physical appearance. It is a crucial step in my journey towards self-acceptance and becoming the person I know I was always meant to be.

I have spoken to the NHS on a number of occasions however the general response was one of lack of understanding (openly admitted by my GP) and an inability to help. I have even transferred to a different GP surgery to see if they could assist however, although understanding of my situation I still feel like I am being fobbed off with excuses and extended waiting times even just for initial consultations.

Unfortunately, the cost of having top surgery performed privately is daunting and far beyond my financial means (I have just begun a University Degree in film and music production which is going to leave me in at least (£60,000 of student debt).

I have been exploring many of the options available and the estimated expenses for the procedure, including medical fees, consultations, post-operative care, and other related costs, these amount to approx £6000. With the weight of these financial burdens, I humbly ask for any support you may be able to offer, to help me reach this important milestone.

I am aware that being trans is a very emotive conversation in the current climate and that it can cause a great deal of difficulty for some people to acknowledge, however I would ask that you think of me as a person rather than a debate.
