Please read the whole thing and share if you can and we kindly ask you keep phone calls to a minimum as we navigate through this. Well wishes are welcome on this post.
On March 7th, Ron was on his way home from work, on the phone with his other work, and complained of feeling nauseous. He came home at 6:30, had one bite of supper and went to bed. At 3:30am, Phyllis, his wife, found him unresponsive, in the midst of what was presumed to be a massive stroke so she called 911 immediately. By 430am, all 3 of his children, Rebecca, Jessica and Jeffrey, were on the way to Ottawa, prepared to say goodbye to him, as he was on a ventilator and on life support.
At noon on March 8th, he was taken off of life support and after hours of trying to wake him up, he shot up to the sound of his grandchild, Calvin’s voice, over speakerphone. Walking, talking, telling all of the nurses he had to get back to work, in true Ron fashion.
A myriad of tests revealed two masses in his brain, and our worlds came crashing down. On the morning of March 9th, as the clocks sprung forward and Ron lie in a hospital bed, a vagrant patient, who was supposed to be monitored by a guard for prior worrisome behaviour, pulled back his curtain and attacked him, biting his right, dominant thumb to the bone. We met with a plastic surgeon on March 13th who confirmed there is severe tendon and nerve damage and will need to be operated on within a 2-week window in order to ensure his thumb will work again properly. We had to decline and postpone, the caveat, Ron is going for an awake-craniotomy surgery on Monday, March 18 and needs to be infection and germ-free before we can even begin to take the next steps for what is going on in his brain.
If you know Ron, he prides himself in his hard work – he owns a Winery, is a licensed paralegal with a huge caseload, and works full-time for Laurent LeBlanc Construction which requires both his brain and his thumbs. He has helped, and will help absolutely anybody and now it is time that we ask for help on his behalf, because we know he would never ask himself. I am starting this GoFundMe in hopes to relieve some of the stress we have while both of my parents will be off of work, to help with paying for hospital parking, and various appointments, and so that Ron can fight this fight without worry for providing for his family. Any help would be appreciated during this nightmare.
Thank you so much
