Ron Behr navigating life with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

As someone who has known Ron for over 40 years, to know him is to love him. Needless to say I was saddened to hear that my friend had fallen ill back in July. What appeared to be a common cold, quickly escalated and resulted in a diagnoses of Ramsey Hunt Syndrome by the end of the month.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears. In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear. Ron himself has nerve damage which has caused paralysis on the left side of his face. Additional ongoing symptoms including vertigo, ear and headaches and eye troubles.

Ron was fortunate enough to have been watched over by friends for the first 5 weeks of his illness, now that he is stabilized he has returned to living independently. Due to ongoing symptoms Ron has been unable to return to driving (even walking continues to be a struggle) and has been advised by his medical team that he will be unable to return to work until the beginning of 2025 at the earliest.

As we all know bills and expenses do not have a pause button and now in addition to Ron's "typical" living expenses he has added expenses associated with his Ramsay Hunt diagnoses and subsequent treatment. My hope in setting this up is that we can come together to provide Ron with some support and alleviate the financial stress brought about by all of this.
