Ron Castillo's Fight Against Valley Fever
Donation protected
It all started at the end of 2019, when our brother-in-law, Ron, fell ill during the holidays and we thought it was just a bug.
Ron and Diane, my sister, met early in their college years and have been married for over 9 years. They live in the central valley of California – Fresno area. Coalinga to be exact. At some point late last year, Ron inhaled an airborne pathogen referred to as “Valley Fever”, (cocci meningitis) which was not confirmed until sometime later. An infection started in his lungs and quickly spread to his brain. Diane and Ron’s family have been by his side since he was admitted in late January hoping for signs of improvement. He is now in ICU fighting for his life and the prognosis is not good.

Valley Fever Information
For anyone that knows Ron, he is a kind, caring and silly guy that always goes with the flow. Ron is a Husband, Son, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle and friend. He is the first to help a stranger in need and sees the good in everything. He loves his classics, Rolling Stones and Elton John, to name a couple. And a Forty Niner fan even during the last painful quarter of the Super Bowl!
Our sister is a junior high schoolteacher and is passionate about her “kids”, but she now needs to be by Ron's side to help fight for him. This has taken a financial toll. She has had to hire substitute teachers while she is on leave, and has been counting on PTO donations from other teachers to help carry some of the burden but it is not enough. Now we need our village.
She will soon be faced with some very hard decisions and we need to do everything we can to help ease the worry so she can remain by his side and support him thru one of the toughest battles of their lives.
The doctors are saying there isn't much more they can do and outlook is not good. As you can imagine, this has been heartbreaking to the Castillo and Andrade/Avila/Ratto siblings (party of 5) who all love Ron and Diane very much and are now rallying around Diane to help all we can.
We are all sending our love and prayers in this uphill battle. All funds will go directly to Diane to cover their medical and personal costs. (If you rather venmo or send her a hand written card, please contact any of her siblings for Diane’s home address or venmo handle)
Any help is appreciated, even in the form of prayers, love and hope for the Castillo family.
Thank you for your support and reading Ron's story.
