Ron Miscavige Memorial Fund

Ron  Miscavige is nearing the end of his extraordinary life and asked to post this video of his song: "Ron's Theme (I'm Happy)" to raise funds for his cremation and memorial costs. 

Ron Miscavige is the father of David Miscavige, the leader of the Church of Scientology. He spent 42 years living under the Church's grasp but escaped in 2012. Since that time his life has been more rewarding and fulfilling than ever before.

The Story of The Song

I met Ron Miscavige in the early 1980s. We played gigs throughout the years. I always liked his steadfast determination and hilarious real-life stories. Music and entertainment have always been one of Ron's great joys. At the beginning of 2021 Ron and I collaborated on a song he wrote. I called it, "Ron's Theme" but Ron liked to call it, "I'm Happy". That says a lot about the recent years of his life!

During a phone call at the beginning of 2021 Ron sang a bit of the song to me. I played it back on my keyboard and started recording it on my computer. It was just a germ of an idea, really only 8 measures long.  As we worked together the song began to take form. Ron added a contrasting melody that became the second half of the song. During the evolution of the song we created about 20 different versions until we both agreed on this final version.

Recording Ron's Performances

Ron lives in Wisconsin and I live in California. Ron wanted to record brass and vocals. So how do we do that? With iPhones and Skype! Ron recorded the trumpets and trombone on his iPhone and sent the audio files to me. For the vocals, he wanted to sing along with the pre-existing music. So we recorded his singing during a Skype video call!

Ron wanted to add guitars, so we asked our mutual friend, Geoff Levin, to join the recording. Geoff did a fantastic job not only recording guitars but some synthesizers and percussion too. Later, Geoff did the final mix and mastering of the song.

The Video

Ron's wife, Becky, sent an assortment of photos so we could create a video with the song as the featured music. Family, friends and memories.

About This Fundraiser
I'm Ron's long-time friend. Several days before this fundraiser began Ron asked me to help raise money for his cremation and memorial costs. He specifically wanted to do this with the song we collaborated on. Daily, I stay in touch with Becky about the fundraiser. She's aware of face value of donations and the actual value after fees have been subtracted.

Becky is the beneficiary of all the donations. I created this fundraiser but the donations will be deposited into her checking account. All the money will be used solely for Ron's cremation and memorial. There's no personal gain.

Gratitude
Ron's final wish to me was to help raise money for his cremation and memorial costs so he wouldn't be a burden to Becky or anyone else. Every donation that's made is fulfill this wish. Thanks for honoring Ron!
