Ronald Hess Funeral

Donation protected
Ronald J. Hess passed away peacefully May 13, 2021, fittingly on his beloved mother’s birthday. He was 88 years old and was blessed in his later years to be surrounded by family.

Ron was born December 22, 1932 to Orlin and Myrle Hess in Malad, Idaho. At a young age, his family moved to Long Beach California, where he attended Wilson High School.

He was drafted into the Army in December of 1952 and completed basic training at Fort Ord. He served until November 1954 during the Korean war as a field radio mechanic in the 3rd battalion 5th infantry division. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

He began his plumbing apprenticeship at the age of 16. He worked for 65 years in that profession, most of the time he was with UA Local 582 Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union in Orange County, CA. He was dedicated to this trade. His work ethic was outstanding and helped to build communities by completing work on high rise buildings, homes, schools, churches and an army barracks.

On May 12, 1984, he married Arleen Florence Harvey, and they spent their first years of marriage in California and in 1988 moved to Utah. After his retirement he used the free time to become an outstanding bowler. He shared his talents with the kids he coached at All Star Lanes in West Jordan. He loved bowling! He made many cherished friends while being involved in a variety of leagues and tournaments.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various callings and was passionate about indexing names for temple work. He was a dedicated priesthood holder and many members benefited from his committed service.

In his later years, he loved attending all his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s’ games, concerts and parties. He never turned down a dessert, a good western or watching any sporting event, especially football or college basketball.

He is preceded in death by his parents Orlin and Myrle; brothers Daniel Kyle Hess and Wesley Orlin Hess; and daughter Cheryl Suzanne Hess. He is survived by his loving wife Arleen Hess, brother Terryl Evans Hess and children James Ronald Hess, Randal J. Hess and Stacy Cook (John) Mrozowski.  He will be greatly missed by his 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Friday May 21rst at 1pm at Welby 4th Ward building: 9376 South 4000 West, West Jordan Utah.
